26 Forgetful of all he had written and said Antiochus Annoyed by the two Ptolemies thus joining each other, Antiochus renews the war, B.C. 168. began preparing for a renewal of the war against Ptolemy. So true are the words of Simonides,—’tis hard to be good. For to have certain impulses towards virtue, and even to hold to it up to a certain point, is easy; but to be uniformly consistent, and to allow no circumstances of danger to shake a resolute integrity, which regards honour and justice as the highest considerations, is indeed difficult. . . .
